Google URL Shortener closing soon

Starting from 30th March 2018, Google URL Shortener closing down soon. In it’s dashboard, Goo.gl has announced about it’s closure in the month of March, 2018. Google URL Shortener closing soon.

From April 2018, the URL shortening service is no more accepting new users. Only existing users are allowed to create short URLs on goo.gl console.

Google URL Shortener Closing Soon

Google launched the URL shortener in year 2009 as a way to help peoples compress a “long URL” into a small one and to measure the traffic. Since then, many popular URL shortening services have emerged and the ways people find content on the Internet have also changed dramatically, from primarily desktop webpages to apps, mobile devices, home assistants, and more.

Beginning April 13, 2018, anonymous clients and clients who have never made short connections today won’t have the capacity to make new short connections by means of the goo.gl support. In the event that you are hoping to make new short connections, we prescribe you look at well known administrations like Bitly and Ow.ly as an option.

Starting March 30, 2018, we will be turning down support for goo.gl URL shortener. From April 13, 2018 only existing users will be able to create short links on the goo.gl console. You will be able to view your analytics data and download your short link information in csv format for up to one year, until March 30, 2019, when we will discontinue goo.gl. For Developers

For developers, Google has added the following paragraph in their blog post.

Starting May 30, 2018, only projects that have accessed URL Shortener APIs before today can create short links. To create new short links, we recommend FDL APIs. FDL short links will automatically detect the user’s platform and send the user to either the web or your app, as appropriate.

From 30th March 2019, Goo.gl will no longer allow to create new URL. The existing URLs will be continued to be redirected to it’s destination. Google URL Shortener closing soon. You can move to another URL shortener in mean time.
